Job and Education Fair set for Wednesday

Several workforce development agencies will be hosting a Job and Education Fair on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.

Local agencies have joined forces and will sponsor a unified fair to serve the Yuma community. Last year, more than 120 employers, schools and resource agencies participated in this event.

Achieve Human Services and partnering agencies will also simultaneously host the 8th Annual DREAM Job Fair for people with disabilities in conjunction with the Job and Education Fair. DREAM (Disability and Rehabilitation Employment Awareness Month) is celebrated annually and this will be the fifth time they have been able to partner together.

Many of the companies hiring at the fair require online applications. A resource center will be available on site with computers for job seekers to use so they can apply online.

In addition, space will be provided for employers to conduct interviews at the job fair. The partnering organizations are thrilled that they can make these connections and meet the needs of both the employers and job seekers.

In addition, Employment Readiness Workshops will be held on site. Job seekers planning to attend the fair are encouraged to attend the workshops so that they are prepared to meet with the employers.

Job seekers wishing to attend the fair can preregister at https://goo.gl/ CzeWzj. Job seekers who are pre-registered will be able to use the express line for quicker access to this event.

Hamburger Stand’s anniversary celebration on Oct. 6.

To mark the occasion of serving its first hamburger 36 years ago, Hamburger Stand is offering 36-cent hamburgers on Oct. 7. The Irvine-based company says the special price is its way of thanking customers for nearly four decades of support.

All Yuma restaurants will join in on the celebration, which starts at noon and lasts until 5 p.m. Each customer can order up to five 36-cent hamburgers during this time frame.

Beyond their namesake hamburgers, the restaurants feature Wienerschnitzel favorites and TasteeFreez soft-serve treats.

“We want to give back to our customers for their loyalty the past 36 years by offering this incredible deal,” said JR Galardi, Hamburger Stand president. “My father’s desire to create delicious burgers was why Hamburger Stand was founded and we’re thrilled to continue carrying out his vision.”

John Galardi started in the restaurant business in Missouri at the age of 12 and moved to Los Angeles at 19 to open his first restaurant, Wienerschnitzel. As the chain grew to meet customer demand, Galardi added Hamburger Stand restaurants in Denver and other cities and added Tastee-Freez soft serve to Hamburger Stand and Wienerschnitzel menus nationwide.
