Coffee with a Cop is today

SAN LUIS, Ariz. – Residents and the general public can chat with San Luis police officers over a cup of coffee today.

The occasion is Coffee with a Cop, one in a recurring series of get-togethers the police department has with residents to find out what questions or concerns they have about crime and public safety.

Today’s gathering takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Denny’s restaurant in San Luis, 1541 N. Main St.

“People have responded well to the Coffee with a Cop program, and that has allow us to get closer to the community,” San Luis police Lt. Marco Santana said. “A variety of issues are discussed, from traffic to areas where people notice suspicious activity taking place. That information helps us to focus on those areas.”

The gatherings are informal, and participants can ask any questions they want about the police department or about public safety in general, Santana said.

“That is part of the transparency. We don’t want them to think the department is not open to the community. We take all of their comments into account.”

The department’s interim chief, Richard Jessup, as well as representatives of the patrol, investigations and animal control divisions will be present.

The invitation for a free cup of coffee at the gathering is open not only to residents of San Luis but the area.
