The Yuma Police Department has partnered with LexisNexis Risk Solutions to provide a new way for the public to stay informed about crime in the city.

Spokesperson Sgt. Lori Franklin said YPD now has a Community Crime Map that analyzes crime data, alerts city of Yuma citizens about crimes in their area and allows the police department to alert the public about crimes as they occur.

“It is not in real time, but information is updated about every seven to 10 days,” Franklin said.

“We encourage the public to visit the website.”

Residents can view a map and grid with all of the crimes in their area, sign up for neighborhood watch reports that automatically email a breakdown of recent crime activity and submit an anonymous tip about a crime directly to their law enforcement agency.

The map can be accessed through a portal on the City of Yuma web page under Yuma Police Department, Services & Programs, and Crime Statistics, or by going to www.communitycrimemap.com/?address=yuma,az.

The Community Crime Map automatically syncs with the YPD records system to keep crime information updated online and in the mobile app.

The map cleans and geocodes the crime data, then displays all of the incidents on a map, grid and analytics dashboard along with some basic information about the incidents, which residents can sort by data range and type of crime from a dropdown menu on the left side of the screen.
