Supervisors to adopt 2 budget amendments

- BY BLAKE HERZOG @BLAKEHERZOG

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors will adopt two budget amendments for the county’s housing department when it meets Monday, increasing the total budget by just over $357,000.

The board is expected to approve taking a $250,000 Emergency and Security grant award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The money is to be used for installing security cameras, LED lighting and other safety equipment to the three county-owned apartment complexes: Pecan Shadows in Yuma, Monteczuma in San Luis and Valley Vista in Somerton.

A second board vote would carry over $39,706 of unused grant funding from last fiscal year and transferring $68,705 from its contingency fund for modernization projects at the three complexes.

The meeting will begin 9 a.m. Monday in the Board of Supervisors’ auditorium at 198 S. Main in Yuma. Other agenda items:

• A zoning reversion hearing for five parcels totaling 13.6 acres at the northwest corner of Old Highway 80 and Avenue 37E near Wellton.

The board could either allow the zoning to change from Suburban Site Built-2 acre minimum to Rural Area-40 acre minimum or give an extension for the current zoning, given to a developer who did not meet a schedule for development.

• A transfer of $110,000 from the county’s flood control district contingency fund to a drainage project on North Frontage Road from Fortuna Road to Foothills Boulevard.

• A $143,021.66 contract with Westerner Products of Yuma for a covered employee parking project at the Public Works complex.

• A contract with Electronic Security Concepts for $243,000 to replace fire alarms at the Justice Center.

• A $152,300 contract with Advanced Mechanical Services of Tucson to replace the chiller for the air conditioning system at the juvenile detention center.

• The purchase of a used Caterpillar asphalt paver for $175,447.27 from Empire Southwest LLC of Yuma.

The meeting will be broadcast on the county’s cable channel, Yuma77, and webcast and available for later viewing at www. yumacountyaz.gov and the Yuma County Government Facebook page. Spanish subtitles are shown on rebroadcasts.
