DENVER — Nikola Jokic scored 35 points, posted a triple-double and didn’t miss a field goal in leading the Denver Nuggets past the Phoenix Suns 119-91 Saturday night.

Jokic, who had 10 assists and 10 rebounds, joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to post a triple-double with 30 or more points without missing a field goal.

Chamberlain did it twice, in 1966 and ‘67.

Jokic made all 11 of his shots from the floor and missed just one of 11 free throws on a night the crowd serenaded him with chants of “MVP! MVP!”

Jamal Murray added 26 points for the Nuggets, who are off to their first 2-0 start since 2011-12 and will go for their first 3-0 start since 2009-10 when they host the two-time defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.

They’ll be without starting forward Will Barton, who injured his right hip on a reverse layup in the third quarter and was wheeled off the court in obvious distress.

Devin Booker’s 25 points led the Suns.

Barton’s injury took some air out of the Pepsi Center, where Jokic stretched Denver’s 65-49 halftime lead to 81-59 on a dunk, which was followed by a 3-pointer from Murray for a 25-point lead midway through the third quarter.

The intriguing matchup between Jokic and top overall draft pick Deandre Ayton down low never really materialized. Ayton, who had 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in his debut against Dallas, scored 5 points on 2-of-7 shooting.

Phoenix coach Igor Kokoskov knew it was going to be a learning experience as his prized rookie worked against Jokic.

Bill Weaver posted 6.6 quota points to win first place in the Mesa Del Sol Monday Quota mixed play with Steve Parrish finishing in second place with 5.04 points. Garry Whitcomb finished third, Bill Slade fourth and Carl Johnson fifth. The skin winners were Steve Parrish, Matt Whittaker and Carl Johnson.

On Tuesday at the Las Barrancas Golf Course, the Silver League gross score winners were Rollie Harris, Carl Fritz and Jack Joseph. The net score winners were Mark Parks, Ken Griffin and Greg Beatie. The team winners were Harold Poppen, Steve McClure, Jim Kerlee and Lane Leonard.

Sam Samples was the first-place winner in the “Pinky’s Pick” weekly mixed play at the Mesa Del Sol Golf Course on Wednesday morning, followed by Wayne Gunion in second. The remaining winners were Tim Segrest, Jerry Olson, Ray Butler, Hank Browning, Steve Parrish, Marilyn Cotter and Gordon Little.

On Wednesday at The Foothills Executive Golf Course, the Men’s League gross score winners were Carl Fritz, Greg Beatie and John Cullen. The net score winners were Larry Nicholson, Conrad Eisenach and John Newberry. The team winners were Jack Costello, Al Smith, Bob Selle and Dennis Wagner.

On Thursday at the Las Barrancas Golf Course, the Copper League gross score winners were Rollie Harris, Jack Joseph and Claude French. The net score winners were Larry Nicholson, Chuck Scott and Michael Costello.

Steve Parrish and Hank Browning were the first-place gross best ball winners in the Mesa Del Sol MGA play on Friday morning. The net best ball winners were Chris Sockwell and Al Johnson. Marty Tovas and Jack Parker finished second net, followed by Fred Hancewicz and Dave Henager in third, and Raymond Throckmorton and Bob Rehn in fourth. The skin winners were Dave Henager, Bob Lauer, Jack Parker, Bill Weaver, Wayne Gunion, Al Johnson and Lee Laabs.

The Mesa Del Sol Golf Course has 18 holes open for play and No Shaggy Greens. The greens have been seeded for winter, but are maintained in such a manner that they are smooth with good speed.

It’s almost that time of year again for the 2nd Annual Golf for the Kids Charity Golf Classic, presented by the Yuma Investment Group, benefiting the Arizona’s Children Association. Last year’s event brought in over $12,000 to the Arizona’s Children Association to help local children in need. Because of the cash amounts awarded to our winners last year, we are going to have two blind draw teams play the same hole at the same time keeping track of each other’s score. The team buy-in will take place on Nov. 30 at the Yuma Golf and Country Club. The blind draw four-person scramble tournament will be the following morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. at the Yuma Golf and Country Club. Please submit your entry form ASAP as entries will be limited. Players may contact the YGCC for entry or additional information.

The next DHMGA tournament will be played on Nov. 3 and will be a two-man scramble format. Players may contact Bruce Clark at 928-580-6436 for entry or additional information.
