Fire House Facts
During the week of Oct. 14-20, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 298 emergency calls for service:
• 10 General Fire Response
Including: 3 for broken gas lines (all in little more than an hour), 1 for a smoke bomb set off in a school, 1 for insulation burning in an apartment wall, 1 very a large unpermitted bon fire in a backyard, 2 for cooking fires, and various alarms.
• 2 Mutual Aid
Including: Assisting the Imperial County Fire Department with a trailer fire in Winterhaven, and Rural Metro with a medical emergency in the Foothills.
• 20 Motor Vehicle Crashes
Including: 2 involving 3 or more vehicles, 1 involving a bicycle, 2 involving motorcycles, 1 rollover (semi-truck carrying 20+ tons of bananas!), 1 involving a pedestrian, 1 involving a dry canal, and 1 involving a building.
• 243 Other Medical Emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 25 for difficulty breathing, 17 for chest pain, 31 fall victims, 13 unconscious people, 10 seizure cases, 4 possible stroke cases, 8 for intoxicated persons, 3 persons under the influence of drugs, 2 overdose cases, 22 people with psychiatric problems, 1 for dehydration, 4 medical alarms, 3 for children locked in vehicles, 2 for allergic reactions, 1 for choking, 12 for altered or decreased level of consciousness, 1 for fever, 1 for broken bones, 7 for diabetic emergencies, 1 for an unknown insect bite, 1 for a bee sting, 9 for “man down” calls, 2 for uncontrolled bleeding, 3 for bad headaches, 1 for a stabbing, 11 for assaults, 6 for back pain, 5 for abdominal pain, 4 pregnancy related, 1 for a deceased person, 3 sports related injuries, 1 for a ring stuck on a finger, and other illnesses and injuries.
• 23 Special Duty, Public Assistance, and Residential Assignments
Including: 1 for a bee swarm, 3 snake removals, 4 for illegal trash burning in yards, 1 power pole down, 1 strong gas smell, 1 for fuel leaking from a vehicle, 1 for a metal roof on powerlines, and various alarms.
