YPD hosts annual trick-or-treat event for kids this week
Children can trick or treat in a safe environment again this Halloween by attending the Yuma Police Department’s 9th Annual Scary & Safe Trick or Treat event at the Yuma County Fairgrounds.
The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 and open to children 12 and younger. The admission fee is $1 per person, and will benefit the Arizona Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arizona.
“This is a tradition we have renewed for the benefit of the children of Yuma and hope to continue it for many years to come,” said Sgt. Lori Franklin, YPD spokesperson.
Instead of walking from cell to cell as they have done in years past, trickor-treaters will once again be walking from booth to booth through one of the main buildings at the fairgrounds, collecting some devilishly good treats along the way.
Handing out candy will be members of local, state, tribal and federal public safety agencies, along with businesses and local nonprofit organizations,
A combo of hot dogs, chips and water will be sold for $2.00.
Franklin added that while the lines are expected to be long, there will be entertainment and other activities.
The event had previously been held at the Yuma Territorial Prison Historical Park, but had to change locations last year due to a reduction in parking.
Parking is plentiful and restrooms are available.
