An ode: Christmas more important than Halloween

-

It’s a sad day for America, When Halloween outdoes Christmas Day.

I’m sorry if I offend you the readers,

Being it’s not supposed to be this way.

I’m reminded of just a year or so back,

When “Merry Christmas” appeared out of style.

Prayers were taken out of our schools,

While our country appeared in denial.

These days it’s all about witches and goblins,

Which mean more than thoughts about Christ.

To be honest I’d say that it has me concerned,

Being everything seems to come with a price.

There is more spent today on masks and costumes,

Then we see spent on Christmas trees.

Plus cards wishing friends a joyful Christmas

When one thinks of it all it seems crazy. Even when it comes to the holidays I see little meaning these days Being it’s all about Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman,

We’ve destroyed the whole meaning I’d say.

There is nothing wrong with an evening of fun,

Though when its meaning seems to mean more

And it rises above how we look at Christmas,

I feel bothered by it more and more.

To me it seems strange just how easily As a nation we’re being misled. That rather than honoring a “god” who is alive,

It’s like we choose to honor the dead.

I can see where Halloween is fun for a day, But let’s not get carried away, Being that tricks and treats will be gone tomorrow,

While our “Christ” is here to stay. JIMMY LUHM Yuma
