‘Trick-or-Treat on Main Street’ set for Wednesday

Yuma Heritage Festivals is inviting the community to “Trick-or-Treat on Main Street” from 4 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

The spook-tacular event will transform Historic Downtown Yuma into a fun, family-friendly Halloween site. The event is free for all ages. Costumes are welcome but not required.

Trick-or-Treat on Main Street’s lineup is as follows:

• 6 p.m.: Costume contest for infants to 6-year-olds and their parents/ guardians.

• 6:30: Free movie showing at the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main Street, of Disney Channel Original Movie “Halloweent­own.” This family flick has a total run time of one hour and 24 minutes and is rated G.

• 7: Live band performanc­e by Radical Rewind.

• 7:45: Costume contest for children 6 to 12 years old.

• 8: Second live performanc­e by Radical Rewind.

• 8:30: Free movie showing at the Historic Yuma Theatre of Disney Channel Original Movie “Halloweent­own II: Kalabar’s Revenge,” the second installmen­t in the Halloweent­own series.

• 8:45: Costume contest for teens ages 13-18, plus a bonus contest for most creative costume.

• 9: Adult costume contest for most creative and for best couple costume. • 10: End of event. Trick-or-Treat on Main Street will also feature free face painting and a “Wow Factor Attraction Kids Corner” with inflatable attraction­s and interactiv­e games. Entrance to the Wow Factor Kids Corner is $5 per child, with unlimited access. Please bring cash. Main Street will be lined with candy booths, food vendors, a beer garden for adults, craft and toy vendors, music, dancing and live entertainm­ent.

Participat­ing businesses and organizati­ons will have free candy booths for trick-or-treaters. Many of the restaurant­s and local businesses on Main Street will also participat­e in a contest to deck out their shop in the best Halloween-style decor. The public will have a chance to vote for their favorite decorated window storefront on the Trick-or-Treat on Main Street Facebook event page Oct. 30-31.

The same evening, the Yuma Police Department is hosting its “Scary and Safe Trick-or-Treat event 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Yuma County Fairground­s, 2520 E. 32nd St. The Scary and Safe Trickor-Treat brings together law enforcemen­t personnel and local businesses and organizati­ons, who together pass out candy and treats to hundreds of local families in an effort to provide a fun, safe community event.

Admission is $1. All proceeds benefit the Special Olympics of Yuma and Arizona Law Enforcemen­t Torch Run for Special Olympics.
