First Take

Suddenly, the world of social media is alive with talk about the peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich.

I caught a glimpse of a story on the television news Tuesday morning about the “PBM” delicacy, during which it was reported that a newspaper poll found that 62 percent of its readers “wouldn’t ever try the sandwich.”

Let me go on record by saying that I absolutely l-ov-e PBMs, and to those 62 percenters who have never tried one, don’t judge a sandwich by what’s spilling over the edge.

Besides, it’s not as unusual, in my opinion, as some other sandwiches my brother and I experimented with as youngsters. For example, my brother is fond of peanut butter and butter sandwiches. Yes, butter, like the kind you spread on toast.

I never developed a taste for that combination.

Then again, I saw in an online story that some people put lettuce on their PBMs. Um, yuck! I have to draw the line at putting any veggies in my PBM.

Oh, and my PBMs feature creamy, not chunky.
