chapters, businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies, schools and service clubs from around the area.

The parade will travel south on 4th Avenue to 25th Street, where it will turn east and then conclude at the legion post.

Oppenborn and Welch will be riding near the front of the procession as co-grand marshals.

Oppenborn, a native of Houston, joined the Army in 2004, according to biographical information provided by YPG.

From 2004 to 2008, he served as an airborne infantryman in 82nd Airborne Division’s Long Range Reconnaissance Detachment assigned at Fort Bragg, N.C. During that period, he spent 16 months deployed in Afghanistan.

From 2008 to 2011, he served as a demonstration parachutist with the Golden Knights at Fort Bragg.

Oppenborn was selected in 2011 to attend the U.S. Army Special Forces Qualification Course, and after graduating from that course, he became a special forces weapons sergeant.

While serving with the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, Ken., from 2013 until earlier this year, he was forward deployed to Iraq, Jordan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, before being sent most recently to Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Biographical information for Staff Sgt. Michael Welch was not immediately available.

The parade will be followed by a barbecue lunch at American Legion Post 19.

Post 19 will stage its 11th hour ceremony as usual today. The observance marks the moment the armistice ending World War I went into effect — the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

The ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. at the post. “If anyone wants to come to the 11th hour ceremony on Sunday, they’re more than welcome,” Carey said.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6790 is organizing Wellton’s Veterans Day Parade, which begins at West End Park, at Los Angeles and Arizona avenues.

Any groups or individuals wanting to join in the parade are asked to assemble at the park no later than 10 a.m., one hour before the parade’s start.

Following the parade, a hot dog and hamburger lunch will be served at the VFW post located at 29389 Oakland Ave.
