Suspect fatally shot by Phoenix police is ID’d
GLENDALE — Authorities have released the name of a suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting after a police chase from Phoenix to Glendale.
Glendale police say 24-year-old Timothy Odell Leon was a suspect in at least three carjackings and two armed robberies in a recent five-day span.
Tactical officers with Phoenix police were trying to arrest Leon in a stolen vehicle Tuesday afternoon and followed him into Glendale.
They say Leon was armed with a handgun and he allegedly pointed the weapon at officers after he was stopped in front of a Glendale apartment complex.
Police opened fire and Leon was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the fatal shooting remains under investigation.
Arizona Christian University getting former Thunderbird management school site
GLENDALE — Arizona Christian University plans to move from its current location in north Phoenix to the former campus of Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale.
The private nonprofit university’s announcement Wednesday says the move is made possible by a land exchange agreement under which Arizona State University is acquiring Arizona Christian’s current location.
Thunderbird in 2014 became part of ASU and relocated this year to ASU’s campus in downtown Phoenix.
Arizona Christian says it has been evaluating options for a new campus to provide its students and faculty with improved academic and sports facilities and additional space for classrooms and on-campus housing.
