Hit the pause button, and give thanks
What are you most thankful for this year, Yuma?
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It doesn’t seem possible. Wasn’t it just yesterday that we celebrated the Fourth of July? Time, as always, seems to be flying by at a record pace.
Thanksgiving is a good time to hit the pause button, at least for a moment, and do as the day suggests: give thanks.
Personally, I’m most thankful for my husband and my daughter, the two people who I cherish most in this world. These two keep me on my toes, make me laugh and inspire me to do and be more each day.
I’m also thankful for my siblings and extended family. Despite the miles and differences in our ages, my sisters and I talk or text nearly every single day. It’s a bond that has only grown stronger through our lives, and I’m thankful for their friendship.
Speaking of friendship, I’m also thankful that we have a variety of friends who are like family. After all, friends make the world a brighter place.
I’m thankful for the teachers who have had an impact on my child, for the lessons they’ve taught and the wisdom they’ve shared. We’ve been very fortunate to have excellent teachers who strive to make a difference, from preschool on up the line, and I’m thankful for their efforts and kindness.
When I read reports of political or social strife, I’m glad that I live in Yuma, where neighbors help neighbors, and people rise to meet the needs of others. The community is generous, and bands together in the face of challenges like no other.
As both a journalist and an American, I’m thankful for the First Amendment, and the protections that it offers. Freedom of religion, speech, press and peaceful assemblies, and the freedom to petition the government — all can be found in one amendment. It’s a cornerstone of our democracy, and one for which I will always give thanks.
I’m also thankful for the Yuma Sun newsroom team. The amount of heart and hustle each member puts into the day is truly astounding, and I deeply appreciate each and every person on the team.
Last, but certainly not least, I’m thankful for our readers. I’m continually amazed by the passion I see every day for our community and all of its news and happenings. You are amazing, and I thank you for picking up the Yuma Sun!
