Ducey to give State of State speech at AWC
Gov. Doug Ducey will deliver a localized version of his State of the State speech Thursday, sprinkling Yuma County-related information into the official address he gave at the Capitol Jan. 14.
He will speak at Arizona Western College, 2020 S. In January, the governor’s 40-minute address served as the traditional kickoff to this year’s legislative session, and was his first since being re-elected in November.
The Republican said he would strive for bipartisan action on issues including the drought contingency plan (approved by the Legislature and signed into law Jan. 31), ending legislative immunity, increasing school safety and teacher pay and universal recognition of professional licenses.
His Yuma-focused remarks may be related to the ongoing drought and its effects on the Colorado River, which local farmers depend on to fuel the area’s winter vegetable industry.
