To err is human — and we are certainly humans

Comics mistake on Friday did not go unnoticed by readers

-

When we make a mistake in the paper, we feel it’s important to fix the mistake, and apologize for the error.

On Friday, the Yuma Sun inadvertently ran the wrong comics page in the paper, somehow running the same comics page two days in a row.

As much as we rely on computers to help us be more efficient, ultimately, there is a human component to every single step of the production process, and, simply put, we messed up.

Our phones rang off the hook Friday, letting us know of the mistake and the fact that readers were very unhappy.

For our mistake, we do apologize. We know the comics page is a beloved feature of the newspaper, whether people read it for the comics, the puzzles or both.

We are working to refine the production process to help avoid this issue in the future. In the meantime, we’ve put the right page online for readers to access as quickly as possible, at www. YumaSun.com.

Then, in the Sunday paper, readers will find the page that should have printed on Friday inside the Sports section, on page C5.

And while we’re on the subject of fixing mistakes, let’s talk about one more point.

Our team strives to get it right on the first try, whether it’s a complicated name in a story, a statistic on graduation rates or something more complex. Our goal is to report it right. However, our reporters are human, and occasionally, we do make mistakes.

When that happens, please reach out to the reporter, and let us know. We want to make sure the information is correct in every story. When a mistake happens, we verify the information, and then run a correction or clarification on the top of Page A2, while also correcting the online version of the original story.

Accuracy is a tenet of this organization, and something we strive for every day. We hope you will help us in the process to get it right. And as always, thanks for reading!
