Power and money corrupt on all sides

-

I agree with Mr. Lacey until he uses the word “Democracy”. This country is not a Democracy: it is a “Democratic Republic.” There is an important distinction between the two, although I agree that it’s constantly used by the press and most of Americans, as if the two were equal.

I read his email with some hope that it was right on, but alas it was not. It is true we all make America great, but to say that Mr. President has no idea is also ludicrous. Politicians do have a tendency toward corruption because they are human: The power and money are there, so use it.

Why does he now begin a tirade on corruption in the GOP? Mr. Lacey should look back closely at the Obama and Clinton presidencies. I understand his dislike of many of Mr. Trump’s tweets. I do too.

I listen to all of the news networks and find consistent manipulation of the facts on them all. It’s news commentary: Not news reporting.

If Mr. Lacey believes that the military stays out of politics, he must also believe in the tooth fairy. He says he has concerns about the Democrats, and then immediately puts all the problems of the day on the GOP.

I too wish that American & World History (Civics in general) were put back into the classroom.

Voting, compromise and civility in all things would be great, but our country and the world in general have thrown it out the window.

Our nation’s peoples as a whole have their head in the sand. But again; Power and money corrupt! Take a look at the lifestyles today of the Obamas and the Clintons. They didn’t come into office that way. RICHARD WATSON Yuma
