Fire House Facts
From Sunday, Feb. 3, through Saturday, Feb. 9, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 292 emergency calls for service, including the following:
• 10 General Fire Response
Including: 1 for a palm tree fire, 1 for a gas leak in a garage, and various alarms.
• 3 Mutual Aid
Including: Called to assist Rural Metro with an emergency medical call and a fire in the county, and called to assist Imperial County with an emergency medical call in Winterhaven.
• 14 Motor Vehicle Crashes
Including: 1 involving a bicyclist, 1 involving 3 vehicles, 1 involving a light pole, and 1 involving a motorcycle.
• 243 Other Medical Emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 19 for difficulty breathing, 17 for chest pain, 19 for falls, 23 for unconscious people, 12 seizure cases, 5 possible stroke cases, 4 for intoxicated persons, 4 for persons under the influence of drugs, 2 for drug overdoses, 22 for people with psychiatric problems, 3 for medical alarms, 1 for child locked in a vehicle, 2 for choking, 13 for altered or decreased level of consciousness, 5 for fevers, 2 for broken bones, 8 for diabetic emergencies, 1 for a dog bite, 5 for man down calls, 1 for uncontrolled bleeding, 3 for bad headaches, 5 for assaults, 3 for back pain, 10 for abdominal pain, 4 pregnancy related, 2 for deceased person, 1 for alcohol withdrawals, 4 for lacerations, 1 for a palm tree rescue, 1 for a person with part of a tree branch in ear, and other illnesses and injuries.

Including: 1 for power lines down, 1 for a damaged power pole, 2 for strong smell of natural gas, 1 for an alley fire, 1 for a trash can fire, 4 for illegal trash fires in yards, 1 for a person stuck in an elevator, 1 for assisting YPD with a biohazard cleanup at a crime scene, 1 for a small brush fire, and various alarms.
