A weekly list of city projects or encroachme­nt permits authorized by the City of Yuma affecting busy streets.

CITY PROJECTS 4th Avenue, 32nd Street to 40th Street

Crews are reconstruc­ting 4th Avenue from 32nd Street to 40th Street. Local traffic will be one-way at all times (southbound only) until the new pavement section is completed. Northbound traffic is detoured along 40th Street to Avenue A. Southbound through traffic is encouraged to use Arizona Avenue and Avenue A as alternate routes. Pedestrian­s are urged to use caution while walking near the workzone. The project is currently on schedule with normal traffic expected to resume by late February.

1st Street and 21st Avenue

Crews will be working to repair a sewer line on 1st Street and 21st Avenue, requiring a lane closure along 1st Street through Feb. 23. 21st Avenue will be completely closed to through traffic between Colorado Street and 21st Avenue. While crews are in the area, traffic along 1st Street will have a reduced speed limit and will not be permitted to turn onto 21st Avenue.

City Street Maintenanc­e

Asphalt maintenanc­e operations for the week of Feb. 18-22 are as follows:

• South Frontage Road, Avenue 8 1/2E to Shadow Avenue (crack seal).

• 24th Street, Arizona Avenue to Pacific Avenue (crack seal).

• Ocotillo Estates 4B subdivisio­n (crack seal).

• Rancho Sereno subdivisio­n (grinding).

• 24th Street, 23rd Lane to Avenue 3E (grinding).

• 36th Street near Avenue 3E (grading).

OTHER UTILITY PROJECTS, ENCROACHME­NT PERMITS Avenue 3E, 36th Street to 40th Street

Crews will be doing overhead work along Avenue 3E from 36th Street to 40th Street from Feb. 15 to Mar. 8 for a Telecommun­ications Fiber Install. The project will require shoulder work along this portion of Avenue 3E, and will slow traffic due to its reduced speed limit.

Coming soon: One-day closure on Avenue B, near 7th Street on Mar. 15 A one-day closure will be required on Mar. 15 on Avenue B near 7th Street, which neighbors Sunset Community Health Center and Immaculate Conception Church. Crews will be accessing a manhole. Traffic along Avenue B will have a reduced speed limit and lane shifts in place, leading to delays. Signs will be posted to alert traffic to the lane closures.

Frontage Road, Avenue 8 ½E to Avenue 9E

A project along Frontage Road between Avenue 8 1/2E and Avenue 9E will require lane closures between Avenue 8 1/2 E and Avenue 9E. The fiber installati­on is a TrueNet Communicat­ions project and is expected to take a total of seven days, finishing by Feb. 28.

Avenue 3E near 32nd Street

Northbound traffic along Avenue 3E near 32nd street will have a right lane closure and reduced speed limit through Mar. 4.

32nd Street near S. Barkley Ranch Avenue (extended)

A project near Crane Middle School (4450 W. 32nd Street) is being extended through March and will impact traffic on 32nd Street (Co. 11st Street) from S. Barkley Ranch Avenue to S. 45th Avenue. The traffic control in place will be extended to Mar. 4.

Avenue C and 28th Street

Avenue C is closed near its intersecti­on with 28th Street as crews install a new sewer and water line, requiring road closures in the area. Traffic control devices will be in place, including signs for alternate routes and detours. The project is anticipate­d to be complete by midMarch.

Avenue B, 8th Street

Century Link is starting a 60-day project this week on Avenue B at 8th Street. A short section of the right southbound lane will be closed during the project. The work is expected to finish in early April.

2nd Street, near Yuma County Superior Courthouse

Century Link will be installing fiber in front of the Superior Courthouse downtown. The 60-day project should be complete around early April, and will require the sidewalk to be closed along 2nd Street. During the timeframe in which the project is underway, parking spaces along 2nd Street in that area may not be available.

24th Street, Avenue A

Crews installing new gas service will be set up at along Avenue A and 24th Street near the intersecti­on neighborin­g Yuma Regional Medical Center. The two-day project is estimated to take place before Feb. 28. Crews will be doing shoulder work along Avenue A on both sides of the intersecti­on.

Arizona Avenue, near 32nd Street

Beginning Feb. 18, crews will be installing a telecommun­ications fiber line near the intersecti­on of Arizona Avenue and 32nd Street. Traffic control devices will be in place throughout the intersecti­on. A reduced speed limit, lane restrictio­ns and turn restrictio­ns will be in place for the safety of crews working in the area. The work is to be completed by Feb. 25.

Avenue B, from 16th Street to 32nd Street (updated)

Update: In addition to the work described below, Avenue B will have lane closures in place Feb. 5-25 between 16th Street and 20th Street while Century Link repairs a telephone cable.

Lane closures are to be anticipate­d on Avenue B, between 16th and 32nd streets as TrueNet Communicat­ions installs fiber wires along Avenue B. Traffic implicatio­ns along that stretch of Avenue B include: lane closures, turn restrictio­ns, shoulder work and reduced speed limits. Drivers are asked to please proceed through the workzone with caution and to obey all posted traffic signs. The project is to be completed by March.

16th Street, near Avenue C

Crews will be working on 16th Street near Avenue C, which is in close proximity to a local elementary school (HL Suverkrup). The 60-day project will begin Feb. 1 and will include lane closures and other possible traffic restrictio­ns.

Arizona Avenue, Hacienda Drive to Palo Verde Street

Crews will begin working on Arizona Avenue, between Hacienda Drive and Palo Verde Street until Feb. 22. Work will include the installati­on of fiber along the shoulder of Arizona Avenue, requiring lane restrictio­ns in both directions.

Arizona Avenue, near Crossroads Mission

A permit has been extended to a contractor working on Arizona Avenue’s roadway near the Crossroads Mission, requiring a full closure. Signs will be posted to alert traffic to the closures. Please use an alternate route. The road will close Jan. 22 and is slated to reopen in April.

24th Street, Ridgeview Drive to Avenue A

Century Link has begun nighttime work along 24th Street, requiring a lane closures between Ridgeview Drive and Avenue A. The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph in the area and the eastbound right lane will be closed. The total duration for the project is 60 days and should be complete by March 9. The bus stop located between Elks Lane and Avenue A is also temporaril­y closed.

24th Street at Mary Avenue

Century Link is working on a project at the north east corner of Mary Avenue and east 24th Street, requiring lane closures. Drivers will be directed to keep left when traveling south of Mary Avenue. The project is slated to finish in April.

24th Street, between 1st Avenue and Virginia Drive

Century Link will be repairing a telephone cable on 24th Street between 1st Avenue and Virginia Drive, leading to a lane closure on 24th Street beginning Dec. 17 through Mar. 15. The speed limit will be reduced along 24th Street in that area.

Pacific Avenue, 12th-15th streets (Southwest Gas)

Pacific Avenue has lane closures and limited access to the Yuma Palms Mall as part of a Southwest Gas project to install a new main line at Pacific Avenue and 12th Street. While work is underway, barricades will be utilized on Pacific Avenue and turns may be restricted onto Pacific Avenue from adjacent streets, as needed for the project and crew safety. The contractor will notify residents in the area of roadwork and is to accommodat­e access to businesses and homes throughout the project’s timeline, if it is safe to do so. The entirety is to be completed by Mar. 13.

20th Street, 4th Avenue to Arizona Avenue

Road closures, lane closures and detours will be in place starting Jan. 4 for a Southwest Gas project to replace steel main pipe in Yuma on 20th Street between 4th Avenue and Arizona Avenue. The project will be underway until Feb. 28.

Coming soon: US 95, Avenue 8E

(ADOT)

Crews will be working on US Highway 95 and Avenue 8E, located just east of the City of Yuma, starting in April. The project will reconstruc­t the intersecti­on of US 95 and Avenue 8E, and will include a new traffic signal. It is a collaborat­ion between ADOT and the Federal Highway Administra­tion to improve safety and traffic flow. The project is to be completed in October 2019. ADOT will have more informatio­n available in the next few months. Drivers who are heading to Yuma Proving Ground/ Quartzite can take I-8 from the 16th Street exit to the Fortuna Road exit, to Highway 95 to bypass traffic.
