Spread a little love with kind actions today
One positive interaction can make difference for others
I like to think that kindness starts in one’s heart and spreads outward, like a warm ray of sunlight on a dark, dreary morning.
A random act of kindness can completely change one’s outlook — and let’s be honest, we can all use a little brightness in our day.
Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day, which is a concept I love.
It doesn’t take much effort to be kind. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a compliment — a sincere “My, you look lovely today!” can go a long way. After all, compliments are free, fun and fabulous.
Or, one can lend time and a helping hand. Visit an elderly friend or relative, and give them a hand around the house. Offer to babysit an infant for a new mom to give her a few hours’ break, or walk a pet for someone with mobility issues.
Or, one can call local nursing homes and see what they need. The answer might be something in your home — gently used books, games, or something along those lines — that you could donate.
If you want to spend a little money, buy a few packages of socks, and donate them to organizations that work with the homeless. Or, purchase someone a cup of coffee or lunch.
Another idea is to purchase a few children’s books, taping a note on front that says “Free to a good home on Random Acts of Kindness Day!” and leaving the books in parks. Imagine the joy a child would have if they found a free book at a park today?
Sometimes, it’s hard to keep a positive attitude when the world around you seems to be flipped upside down. Every day presents its own obstacles, and sometimes, those obstacles weigh heavily on a person. I saw a quote the other day that was something to the effective of, “When you feel like you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on tight.” We can all relate to that sentiment on some level.
Delivering a random act of kindness to someone can completely shift that perspective. It can be personally uplifting for you, while also helping someone else. It can elevate a gloomy day, brighten a mood, and bring smiles all around.
Put a little love and kindness in your pocket, and share it with those around you today.
