Driver hurt when vehicle crashes into dealership
The driver of a vehicle who crashed into a car dealership early Monday morning was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Somerton/ Cocopah Fire Department ambulance for further treatment of the injuries he sustained.
According to information provided by Fire Chief Paul De Anda, at about 2:10 a.m. Somerton/Cocopah firefighters responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries at 18516 S. Highway 95.
Upon their arrival on scene, firefighters found a white Subaru station wagon in the parking lot of car dealership on the west side of Highway 95 in Gadsden. The vehicle’s sole occupant was a 28-year-old male.
The man was complaining of a laceration to his forehead, pain in his neck and in his right knee. He had also stated that he had temporarily lost consciousness upon impact.
While being treated by paramedics on the scene, the man told firefighters that he had been driving north on Highway 95 and, for unknown reasons, suddenly veered across three lane of traffic.
In doing so the driver jumped the curb and the edge of the cement parking lot of a car dealership, striking a black dodge pickup truck and pushing it approximately 20 feet.
A second vehicle was sideswiped in the process. All the air bags in the Subaru deployed. The driver stated that he was not wearing his seat belt at the time and struck the front windshield.
Somerton/Cocopah paramedics placed the man in full cervical spine immobilization before transporting him normal traffic — which is without lights and sirens.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
