Fire House Facts
From Sunday, June 30, through Saturday, July 6, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 260 emergency calls for service, including:
• 11 General Fire Response
Including: 1 for a gas leak in a home, 1 for a large fuel spill from a semi-truck, 1 for a large commercial dumpster fire, 1 for a wood shingle roof set fire by fireworks, 1 for a lawn fire caused by fireworks, 1 for a vehicle fire endangering a house caused by arson, and various alarms
• 5 Mutual Aid
Including: 1 to assist Rural Metro with a medical emergency in the foothills, 3 to assist San Luis with Medical emergencies in San Luis, and 1 to assist El Centro with a large brush fire
• 22 Motor Vehicle Crashes
Including: 1 involving a pedestrian, 1 involving a semi-truck, 1 involving 3 vehicles, 1 involving a fence, and 1 involving a head-on collision
• 200 Other Medical Emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 20 for difficulty breathing, 21 for chest pain, 19 for falls, 12 for unconscious people, 4 seizure cases, 2 possible stroke cases, 3 for intoxicated persons, 1 for person under the influence of drugs, 1 for drug overdose, 20 for people with psychiatric problems, 2 heat related cases, 4 for medical alarms, 3 for child locked in vehicles 4 for choking, 6 for altered or decreased level of consciousness, 2 for fevers, 2 for broken bones, 6 diabetic emergencies, 1 for a dog bite, 1 for a bee sting, 8 for man down calls, 2 for uncontrolled bleeding, 1 for burned feet, 3 for bad headache, 1 for a stabbing, 1 for a gunshot wound, 1 for a possible poisoning due to glue in mouth from trying to put tooth back, 1 for an assault, 5 for back pain, 3 for abdominal pain, 1 for a deceased person, 3 for lacerations, 1 for fingers cut by an operating blender, 1 for a 1 year old who fell from a shopping cart, 1 for a hand cramp…, and other illnesses and injuries
• 22 Special Duty, Public Assistance, and Residential Assignments
Including: 1 for a vehicle fuel leak, 1 for a fire in a trash truck, 1 for an illegal trash fire, 1 for a brush fire started by fireworks, 1 for grass and trash on fire, 2 for dumpster fires caused by fireworks, 5 for dumpster fires in Main Street area caused by an arsonist (suspect arrested), 1 for the rescue of an 11 year old who fell into an 8-foot-deep hole in their backyard, and various alarms.
