A weekly list of projects or encroachme­nt permits issued by the city of Yuma affecting busy streets.

CITY PROJECTS 1st Avenue reconstruc­tion project

The City is reconstruc­ting 1st Avenue between 16th Street and Orange Avenue, including improvemen­ts to undergroun­d water/sewer infrastruc­ture, to sidewalks and driveways, and to surface pavement. Right now,16th Street is reduced to one lane in each direction, with left turns prohibited, near 1st Avenue, and 1st Avenue is fully closed from 12th Street to 16th Street.

Sewer work in 16th Street has been completed and the contractor is now working to restore the pavement. A new asphalt surface course will be installed between Maple Avenue and 2nd Avenue. Lane restrictio­ns on 16th Street are anticipate­d to continue through the third week in July.

City Street Maintenanc­e

Street maintenanc­e operations for July 15-19 will take place in the following locations. Crack seal operations: • 1st Street near Avenue B, and Avenue B 500 feet south of 1st Street • 8th Street, Avenue B to Clifford Avenue • Roxaboxen Park Concrete sidewalk repairs: The summer heat has caused sidewalks to buckle upward, creating a tripping hazard. Public Works maintenanc­e crews will be working on sidewalk repairs in the following areas: • Desert Oasis • Araby Crossing • Trail Estates • Vista Del Sol Pedestrian crosswalk repairs: While students are off for summer break, Public Works will perform crosswalk maintenanc­e around school zones. The goal is to ensure all designated crosswalks are well marked for the upcoming school year. The following schools will be reviewed and repaired: Pecan Grove, Carver Elementary, Yuma High, Ronald Reagan and Cibola.

OTHER UTILITY PROJECTS, ENCROACHME­NT PERMITS 8th Street, Avenue C to Avenue D (Yuma County)

Yuma County is reconstruc­ting and widening 8th Street between Avenue C and Avenue D. The work includes widening the roadway to a 5-lane section with sidewalks, streetligh­ts and drainage improvemen­ts. Currently, there is shoulder work taking place on the north side of the roadway through December. In the future the roadway will be closed to through traffic, but access will be maintained to local homes and businesses. Completion of the collaborat­ive project is anticipate­d by early November.

24th Street partial closure, 8E to Otondo (SW Gas)

The morning of July 17 through the evening of July 19, eastbound 24th Street will be closed between Avenue 8E and Otondo Drive. Eastbound traffic will be routed to detour using 26th Street. This is for gas line work.

Pacific Avenue and 16th Street

Crews will conduct undergroun­d drilling and install fiber from an existing pole at Pacific Avenue and 16th Street. Lane restrictio­ns will be in place at various legs of the intersecti­on as required. Work will take place through July 15.

32nd Street, 8th Avenue (APS)

The right eastbound lane of 32nd Street will be closed from 8th Avenue to just west of 4th Avenue for APS pole maintenanc­e. Work will take place for a single day between July 8-12.

Avenue B, 13th Lane (APS)

The right southbound lane of Avenue B will be closed in the immediate vicinity of 13th Lane for APS pole maintenanc­e. The sidewalk in the area will be closed as well. Work will take place for a single day between July 22-26.

14th Avenue, 19th Street to Ridgeview (SW Gas)

Between July 15-29, 14th Avenue lanes will be narrowed and street parking prohibited between 19th Street and Ridgeview Drive for gas main installati­on.

16th Street, 31st Drive (SW Gas)

Through July 29, the right westbound lane of 16th Street will be closed in the vicinity of 31st Drive for gas line replacemen­t.

16th Street, I-8 (TrueNet)

Through July 15, the right eastbound lane of 16th Street will be closed 350 feet ahead of the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 8 for telecommun­ications fiber installati­on.

Avenue B, 16th Street to 20th Street (SW Gas)

A contractor working for Southwest Gas will replace a gas line on Avenue B from 16th Street to 20th Street, with work in cross streets 24th Street, 25th Street, 26th Street and 32nd Street. The project will run until the end of September. Expect lane closures on Avenue B and some possible turn restrictio­ns.

Avenue 2-1/2E at 24th Street (APS)

APS will replace an undergroun­d line along 24th Street through the end of August. Work will take place on the eastbound shoulder of 24th Street; while lane closures are not planned, motorists are asked to obey speed limit in the work zone. Avenue 2-1/2E will have a southbound lane closure south of 24th.

3rd Street, 13th-25th avenues (CenturyLin­k)

Telephone cable maintenanc­e will cause lane narrowing on 3rd Street between 13th Avenue and 25th Avenue. Work will conclude no later than mid-August.

Avenue 9E, 24th Street rail crossing (Union Pacific)

During July 14-16, flaggers will direct traffic at the Avenue 9E railroad crossing south of 24th Street while machines travel through on the track.

24th Street at Avenue 9E (SW Gas)

Southwest Gas is conducting main pipe replace on 24th Street west of Avenue 9E. Lane restrictio­ns, speed limit reduction and bike lane closure will take place. This section is part of a larger project on 24th Street expected to wrap by September.

3rd Street, 4th Avenue to Avenue A (CenturyLin­k)

CenturyLin­k has a five-month project to repair telephone cable along 3rd Street, between 4th Avenue and Avenue A. The project, which will involve accessing manholes, will cause lane closures and sidewalk closures in some areas.

Avenue 3E at 40th Street, 32nd Street

There will be lane closures along Avenue 3E at 40th Street, 32nd Street and at the intersecti­on of Avenue 4E and 41st place through Aug. 6 for a CenturyLin­k project that requires access to manholes. A reduced speed limit will also be in place.

APS pole work, various locations

APS will install new SCS reclosers on existing poles throughout the area through September 2019. While work will mostly occur on shoulders, some lane narrowing and shifting will take place within work zones. Work zones the City is aware of include the following: • 3rd Street east of Avenue B • Avenue A at the northeast corner of 16th Street • 15th Street and Avenue A • 32nd Street at S.R. 195 • 37th Street at Avenue 5E • North Frontage Road and Mesa Avenue • Avenue 8E south of 24th Street • 12th Avenue south of 7th Street • Araby Road south of 24th Street • County 11th Street and Westwind • Near the corner of Avenue 5E and E. County 10th Street
