The Yuma City Council approved several contracts, including the purchase of vehicles and a boom truck, during the July 19 meeting.

The city will purchase 14 vehicles at an estimated cost of $608,422 from Bill Alexander Ford Lincoln of Yuma and Findlay Auto Group of Bullhead City.

The vehicles include half-ton pickups, a fourwheel drive crew cab and sport utility vehicles. Two vehicles will be purchased from Findlay Auto Group for about $100,201 and 12 vehicles will be bought from Bill Alexander Ford for about $508,221.

In addition, the city will lease 27 vehicles from Enterprise Fleet Management of Chandler at a monthly cost of $10,713 and an annual cost of $128,557 for four years. The vehicles include half-ton pickups, four-wheel drives, a van and four-door sedans.

The budgeted amounts for the leases and purchases include the additional cost of the licenses, registration fees, decals and outfitting some of the units with light-bars, safety lighting, accessories and communication equipment for police department use.

The council also authorized the purchase of a boom truck for $170,397 from Altec of Phoenix. No local vendors supply this equipment, according to a staff report.

The unit being replaced is a 2008 model which has had chassis and body mechanical failures; it will be

sold as surplus.

In other action, the council awarded a one-year $20,000 contract to Sign Pro of Yuma for graphic vehicle decals. This contract will be used to obtain decals for all of the city’s fleet and service vehicles.

A staff report noted that the city had previously solicited and rejected bids received due to the vendors not providing or completing the required information requested in the solicitation. Staff modified the solicitation by changing the specifications and held a pre-bid meeting to go over the requirements of the solicitation. The city received three bid responses, and staff recommended awarding the lowest bidder.

The council also awarded one-year contracts for the purchase of lubricants, motor oils and greases from Senergy Petroleum and Sellers Petroleum, both of Yuma, with an estimated annual expenditure of $31,000.

These contracts will be used to obtain various lubricants, oils and greases for the maintenance and repairs

of the city’s fleet and service vehicles.

The council also approved the purchase and delivery of tires, tubes and services at an estimated annual cost of $200,000, including tax, from Ed Whitehead’s Tire Pros, Purcell Tire Company and Redburn Tire Company, all of Yuma. The city buys about 1,000 to 1,500 tires per year.
