Calif. woman charged with drug-related felonies
The 18-year-old California woman arrested in San Luis over the weekend after police allegedly found methamphetamine hidden in her vehicle has been charged with three drug-related felony offenses.
Appearing for her arraignment via video feed from the courtroom inside Yuma County jail on Tuesday, Sasha TinocoNunez was informed by Justice of the Peace Juan Guerrero that a criminal complaint had been filed against her.
TinocoNunez, who is a resident of Calexico, has been charged with possession of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In addition to granting a prosecution request to have her bond set a $50,000, Guerrero also scheduled Tinoco-Nunez’s next court appearance for 2 p.m. on Aug. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
According to San Luis police, at approximately 11:54 a.m., officers who were working Operation Stone Garden, in support of border security, conducted a traffic stop on a white 2016 Toyota Corolla by Los Oros Street and Main Street within the San Luis City limits.
A K-9 unit was requested, with the dog alerting to the presence of an odor. When officers searched the vehicle, they reportedly found more than 68 pounds of methamphetamine, which had an estimated street value of over $1.2 million.
The meth was found hidden in various compartments throughout the vehicle, wrapped in vacuum-sealed plastic bags, police said.
Tinoco-Nunez was booked into the Yuma County Adult Detention Center, where she currently remains in custody.
