Yuma man arrested for allegedly luring minor
Yuma police arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
Sgt. Lori Franklin said that at approximately 1:22 p.m. on Wednesday the department’s Child, Family and Sex Crimes Unit arrested Scott Nelson Adams in the 2300 block of 8th Avenue.
The victim in this case is under the age of 15. Adams and the victim were not known to each other prior to the contact, which was made through social media.
Franklin was not able to specify which social media platform was used. Adams was booked into the Yuma County jail on one felony count of luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
The case is currently under investigation.
Franklin added that Yuma police are strongly urging parents to monitor their children’s online activity, especially when it comes to social networking applications.
“Social media is one of the ways predators are trying to contact juveniles,” Franklin said. “If you as a parent buy your child a cell phone, it is your cell phone to monitor.”
Social networking apps allow users to communicate and share information and can be accessed using a variety of devices.
Many of these social media apps are free. Some examples include Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Kik Messenger, GroupMe and WhatsApp.
