Laws can’t stop evil because evil doesn’t obey

-

Chicago — 8 killed, 40 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings including two women in a triple shooting along with a 12-year-old girl who was shot on a porch. (Chicago Sun)

New York City — They were singing “Family Reunion” at a block party for old timers day in Brownsville, Brooklyn, when shooters began firing, killing one man and injuring 11, the police said. (New York Times)

San Francisco — Police Chief Bill Scott offered details in a spate of homicides that left three people dead in a matter of days including a 15-year-old boy. (San Francisco Examiner)

Los Angeles — Five people have been killed in shootings since Saturday amid a rise in deadly violence across Los Angeles. (CBS Los Angeles KCAL)

The above items were, as they say, “ripped from the headlines.” I gathered the six articles on Monday, August 5, 2019, the first day after the weekend shootings in El Paso and Dayton.

In the six cities listed above, there were at least 58 people shot, 24 have died. 34 are still receiving medical treatment.

Now while the taking of a life, any life, is horrific and our thoughts and prayers go out to El Paso and Dayton, what are we to make of these numbers? Where is the outrage? Why aren’t city leaders addressing the issue of crime in their city? Are the mayors of these cities “racists” or “bigots?” Are the mayors “white supremacist?” These are all terms our president has been labeled by liberal Democrats. For the record, all six cities have mayors who belong to the Democratic party.

Finally, I’m sure everyone will agree that these shootings are evil, but remember, we will never create enough laws to control evil — evil does not obey laws.
