FarWest Storm Drain Improvement Project
What’s New... Yuma County is installing a new storm drain system to alleviate flooding at several locations in the Foothills. The contractor currently is finishing remaining catch basins and grading remaining roadway sections to complete pavement replacement:
• Cassidy Avenue, South of 37th St.: 8/12/19 thru 8/13/19: Contractor to complete grading roadway for new pavement, pavement expected to be completed by 8/12/19 . Detour will be set thru 37th Street.
• Mona Avenue, North of 37th St.: 8/12/19 thru 8/13/19: Contractor to grade roadway for new pavement, pavement expected to be completed by 8/12/19. PAVEMENT REPLACEMENT WILL INCLUDE FULL ROADWAY WIDTH. Detour will be set thru 37th St.
• Sandra Avenue, South of 37th St.: 8/12/19 thru 8/13/19: Contractor to grade roadway for new pavement, pavement expected to be completed by 8/13/19. PAVEMENT REPLACEMENT WILL INCLUDE FULL ROADWAY WIDTH. Detour will be set thru 37th St.
• 38th St & Cassidy Avenue: 8/12/19 thru 8/13/19: Contractor will install new and catch basin at southeast corner of intersection pavement expected to be completed by 8/13/19. Road will be closed to thru traffic, detour will be set thru 37th St.
• Hunter Avenue, North of 34th St.: 8/12/19 thru 8/16/19: Contractor will remove remaining portion of AC pavement to complete full width road section replacement. Road will be closed to thru traffic, detour will be set thru 34th St & Farwest Avenue.
• 37th St, Hunter Avenue to Renee Avenue: 8/12/19 thru 8/16/19: Contractor will remove remaining portion of AC pavement to complete full width road section replacement. Road will be closed to thru traffic, detour will be set thru 38th St & Hunter Avenue.
• 38th St, Hunter Avenue to Betty Lane: 8/12/19 thru 8/16/19: Contractor will remove remaining portion of AC pavement to complete full width road section replacement. Road will be closed to thru traffic, detour will be set thru 37th St & Hunter Avenue.
Road Closures: Roads will be closed to thru traffic while pavement surface is replaced. Motorists can expect delays as several crews are conducting work, drivers are urged to pay close attention to work zone signs. Traffic control will be in place to detour traffic around road closures.
8th Street Road Improvement Project, Avenue D to Avenue C
What’s New... As part of the reconstruction of 8th Street, Yuma County will be conducting the following work:
Full reconstruction of an urban road section (approx.4,600 lineal feet) consisting of five lanes, two lanes in each direction and a central turning lane; mill and overlay intersection of Avenue C & 8th Street.; installation of new storm drain pipe, manholes, and catch basins; installation of new pavement section, curb & gutter, sidewalk, exposed aggregate concrete, driveways, sidewalk ramps, pavement markings and signage; construction of two storm water detention basins, including pump station and storm sewer force mains, and outlet structures; installation of new street lighting and miscellaneous items.
Schedule: Contractor mobilized May 20,2019. Work Expected to be completed by January 2019.
8/12/19 thru 8/16/19:: For the first phase of work contractor is expected to conduct work on North side of roadway, including roadway excavation and new storm drain system. Storm drain installation commenced on 7/16 and is expected to continue until October 2019. Road Closures: Vehicular traffic will remain on paved roadway, no road closures are expected during the initial phases of work.
