Teen suspected of sending school threat arrested

PHOENIX — Arizona authorities have arrested a teenager after a threatening message to schools was posted online.

Local news stations report that the Tempe Police Department arrested a 14-year-old Friday believed to be responsible for sending the messages Thursday.

Authorities say an investigation into the threats began after the messages of a school shooting were being shared with students at Mountain Pointe High School.

School officials say the messages did not mention the high school, but parents were alerted.

Tempe police say the school remains operational and they will provide additional officers around the campuses “out of an abundance of caution.”

Authorities say the teen is facing several charges.

Authorities say students and parents should alert police immediately of threatening messages instead of reposting and sharing them.

CASA GRANDE — Another stretch of Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson has been widened to three lanes in each direction.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said Thursday the widening of 4 miles between Early Road and Interstate 8 in Casa Grande was part of a $43 million project that included replacing I-10 bridges over Jimmie Kerr Boulevard.

A separate $72 million project nearing completion elsewhere in Pinal County will widen 4 miles of I-10 to three lanes in each direction between Eloy and Picacho.

Widening all of I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson would be completed by a project now in the planning and design stages for 23 miles of I-10 between points near Casa Grande and Chandler.
