Thumbs up, down from the Yuma Sun
• Thumbs up to the Yuma Union High School District, for working to stop drug abuse through education and training, and working to make the problem more of an open conversation here in Yuma County. Transparency can lead to solutions. Conversations and honesty – especially with teens – can help prevent teens from making poor decisions. YUHSD is taking a step in the right direction.
• Thumbs up to Jose Dorame, this year’s Tribute of the Muses winner, and David Adler, recipient of the Helios Award. Dorame is an elementary school art teacher and president of the North End Artist Co-Operative, while Adler is a violinist. Thank you both for your contributions to Yuma’s art scene!
• Thumbs up to the city of San Luis, which recently received a $300,000 grant from the state to help fix reoccurring flooding problems in the Rancho Los Oros subdivision. The funds will be used to connect retention basins in the area to an underground line that will carry away the runoff from heavy rains.
• Thumbs up to U.S. Army veteran Jerry Yeamans, 90, who was recently honored during Hospice of Yuma’s We Honor Veterans pinning ceremony. Thank you for your service, sir!
• Thumbs up to the Big Boy steam locomotive No. 4014, which made a special stop in Yuma this week as it rolled through the nation as part of Union Pacific’s celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion. What a cool experience!
• Thumbs down to porch pirates – the people who drive around and steal packages off the porches of others. What a terrible crime of opportunity.
• Thumbs down to people who don’t clean up after their dogs in public spaces or in others’ yards. Please Yuma – if you are going to have a pet, and you are going to walk it in a public space, bring along the little plastic bags, and clean up after your pup.
Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down are compiled by the Yuma Sun editorial board, based on recent events, happenings and activities around Yuma County and the nation, and will appear on Fridays in the Yuma Sun.
DO YOU AGREE WITH THIS OR NOT?
Clearly Trump is a heavy lifter. He threw Flynn and Manifort under the bus; Then Michael Cohen; And now, he’s thrown thousands of Kurdish allies who protected US military against Isis under the bus.
What a guy, obviously a very strong man.
