Customer service, team building training on Monday

The Yuma County Chamber of Commerce will hold a free customer service and team building training for members at 4 p.m. Monday at the Yuma County Library Main Branch, 2951 S. 21st Drive, in Room C (capacity 32 people).

Wednesday workshop to focus on total wellness

The workshop “Finance, Mind, Body: A Total Wellness” will be presented Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Yuma Main Library, 2951 S. 21st Drive.

Presenters will be wealth advisor Tim Avila and Dr. Kella Price, master trainer with Kella Price Fitness.

The workshop will be presented by Kella Price Fitness and Yuma Investment Group.

Western Arizona Citrus Seminar set for Wednesday

The University of Arizona College of Agricultur­e and Life Sciences and Cooperativ­e Extension will hold a Western Arizona Citrus Seminar at 8 a.m. Wednesday, at the Yuma Agricultur­e Center, 6425 W. 8th St.

There is no charge to attend the seminar, and lunch will be included. Arizona and California continuing education units will be offered.

The seminar will include an overview of the work being done by USDA APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine Program, Arizona Department of Agricultur­e and the University of Arizona.

Dr. Glenn Wright, extension tree fruit specialist, will talk about the current and new scions for desert lemon production. Elene Stefanakos, manager of the Yuma County Pest Abatement District, will give an update.

Dr. Akif Eskalen, plant pathologis­t with the University

of California Cooperativ­e Extension, will share informatio­n on wood canker and rot diseases of citrus and management strategies. Dr. Jiahuai (Alex) Hu, assistant professor and extension specialist with the UArizona School of Plant Sciences in Tucson, will discuss research on citrus brown wood rot.

Dr. Bindu Poudel, extension plant pathologis­t and plant disease diagnosti- cian, will talk about plant disease diagnosis and the Yuma Plant Health Clinic. Dr. Bill McCloskey, extension weed specialist with the UArizona School of Plant Sciences, will focus on herbicides, weeds and herbicide resistance in citrus production. Mark Abildgaard will introduce Agrinos Biological­s of Napa, California.

AWC to hold classes on QuickBooks, Microsoft Outlook and conversati­ons

The Arizona Western College is holding continuing education classes on QuickBooks, Microsoft Outlook and Navigating Difficult Conversati­ons in the AWC Downtown Center, 1351 S. Redondo Center Drive.

A QuickBooks 2015 intermedia­te class will take place Friday. Microsoft Outlook Part 1 will be held Dec. 6, followed by Part 2 on Dec. 13.

The above classes will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 115.

Navigating Difficult Conversati­ons will be held Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 17.

The Quickbooks and Microsoft Outlook sessions are $129 each, and the Navigating Difficult Conversati­ons session is $49. Price includes all class materials. Students who register for both parts of related classes will save 10%.

Talk about fantastic weather for people. Our November weather is amazing. For the growers of our winter produce, it may not be as welcomed. Normally by this month, we are having chilly nights, 60 degrees or less and warm, 70 to 80 degree days. This is perfect for our leafy greens planted in August and September to be ready for the pre- Thanksgivi­ng harvest dates.

With the warmer temperatur­es both day and night, the crops grow more rapidly. Since all the winter crops are planted with a specific harvest date on the calendar, accelerate­d growth and maturity can cause major headaches, including having more product than is needed to meet daily orders.
