San Luis City Hall honored 6th year in a row for financial transparency
SAN LUIS, Ariz. — For the sixth consecutive year, San Luis City Hall has been honored for financial transparency by a government accounting organization.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, presented by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), recognizes San Luis for the annual report documenting the revenues municipal government receives and how it spends public funds.
The city has received it annually since 2013, the most recent coming for fiscal 2018-19. Mayor Gerardo Sanchez used the occasion of a recent council session to present the certificate to the city’s finance department staff, which is responsible for municipal financial accounting.
“I am very proud to tell you ‘good job.’ Never in the city’s history had been recognized for six consecutive years. This tells us we are doing things right,” Sanchez said.
“There will always be those who question or even say that we are misspending, but all the financial information is on line. There is transparency, and that speaks well for the city,” the mayor said in an interview.
The Certificate of of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was established in 1945 to encourage local and governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles. It is presented on the basis of reviews done by a GFOA panel.
Founded in 1906, the GFOA represents public finance officials in the United States and Canada.
