Crims win Eagle Invite

Led by seven individual champs, Yuma High wrestling won the 16-team Eagle Invitation­al at Ironwood High School in Glendale on Saturday.

Mario Bugarin (120 pounds), Josh Salguero (126), Jacob Navarro (132), Servando Campos (182), Jayden Dobson (220), Justin Perez (285) and Arely Carvajal (110 girls) all took first individual­ly, while Sabian Russell (106) and Mikey Doerr (113) each finished second.

San Pasqual was also at the tournament, and produced five placers: Jacob Roosevelt (2nd at 220), Joel Ayala (4th at 182), E.J. Espinoza (5th at 285), MaryJane Barley (3rd at 125 girls) and Julia Gutierrez (3rd at 225 girls).

Kofa boys win in SoCal Classic semifinals

The Kofa boys soccer team defeated San Marcos (Calif.) 1-0 on Saturday in the semifinals of the SoCal Classic in Oceanside, Calif.

Nicklaus Sullivan scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Hector Quiroz.

The Kings will play in the championsh­ip Monday evening.

Son of Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones dies

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The son of Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones has died.

The Lions announced the death of Jones’ son, Marlo, in a statement Saturday night, and Jones posted a message on Instagram.

“We miss you already buddy and will forever love you,” Jones said in his social media post. “Rest peacefully our sweet baby boy. You have gained your wings.”

A team spokesman said Marlo was about 6 months old.

The Lions said they were informed Saturday by Marvin and Jazmyn Jones about their son’s sudden death.

“Marvin and Jazmyn embody the true meaning of family, and the example they set has made them an inspiratio­n to so many in our community. We thank everyone for the outpouring of support,” the team said. “On behalf of the Jones family, we ask that everyone respect the privacy of the matter at this time.”
