Wellton police are reporting that an elderly man is dead after getting struck by a pickup truck early Tuesday morning. It happened in the 28500 block of Los Angeles Avenue at approximately 5:54 a.m.

According to Sgt. David Rodriguez, officers were dispatched to the location for a report of a vehicle-vs.-pedestrian collision. Upon their arrival on scene they, along with Wellton Fire and Tri-Valley Ambulance, provided immediate aid to an individual lying on the roadway.

However, the pedestrian, whose name has not been released because next-of-kin notification has not been made, had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.

Rodriguez said the initial investigation revealed that a 2004 Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound in the 28500 block of Los Angeles Avenue when an individual, dressed in dark clothing, was crossing the street around a divided median and was struck by the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and did not sustain any injuries. The official cause of the accident will be determined after the conclusion of the investigation. While alcohol is not believed to be a factor, toxicology tests are being conducted on blood samples from both the driver and the pedestrian.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is urged to call the Wellton Police Department at 928-785-4887 or 928-785-4700.
