Two people were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center after a twovehicle crash near Somerton on Tuesday morning.

Fire Chief Paul De Anda of the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department said the collision happened at approximately 7:19 a.m. at Avenue D and Highway 95.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found a small red compact car, with significant front-end damage and all air bags deployed, facing west in the right westbound lane of Highway 95.

A large white passenger van with damage to the rear passenger side, was on the south side of Highway 95 facing north in the northbound lane of Avenue D.

According to a witness, the red compact was eastbound on Highway 95, when the passenger van – which was in the westbound turn lane – turned south, in front of the red compact.

The driver of the red compact was unable to avoid the van and struck it on the rear passenger side. The red compact had two occupants and the white van only had the driver on board.

The passenger of the red compact was complaining of head, neck and shoulder pain and the driver was complaining of weakness and dizziness. The driver of the van stated that she was uninjured.

Both occupants of the red compact were transported by ambulances in full cervical spine precautions to the hospital for further evaluation. The San Luis Fire Department assisted in transporting one of the patients.

The Somerton Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.
