SAN LUIS, Ariz. – Winter visitors will be treated to live entertainment and other attractions across the border as guests in the Expo San Luis on Thursday.

An event sponsored by the city and the city of San Luis, Ariz., winter visitors will be bused across the border for a tour of the Mexican city and hosted at an outdoor celebration that features live music.

The sister cities began hosting Expo San Luis five years ago as a way to highlight the medical providers, restaurants and attractions on both sides of the border that cater to tourists.

“It’s an important event for us because we are promoting ourselves as a region, but also we give them information about what our city offers, above all community events,” said Louie Galaviz, parks and recreation director for San Luis, Ariz.

Galaviz’s staff has been going to recreational vehicle and mobile home parks around the Yuma area to sign up winter visitors for the event, but anyone else wishing to attend Expo San Luis can call the parks department at 928-341-8535 for more information.

Winter visitors will meet Thursday morning at the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center in San Luis and will be bused across the border for a tour and the entertainment program that will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the city plaza in downtown San Luis Rio Colorado. Those who can’t find a place on a bus can get a ride from the border to plaza.

Entertainment will feature bands from the area.

Participants will also have the opportunity to shop in businesses in the downtown area.
