Phoenix police asked to release

video of a mistaken ID case PHOENIX — Supporters of a young Black man who claims he was hit with rubber bullets and wrestled to the ground by four white Phoenix police officers in a case of mistaken identity want any and all video footage of the January incident released.

Lawyers for 19-year-old Dion Humphrey filed a notice of claim in June for a likely lawsuit that will seek $11.5 million in damages.

Friends and supporters of Humphrey gathered Wednesday outside Phoenix Police headquarte­rs to d demand the department immediatel­y release any video footage showing the Jan. 10 incident.

There was no immediate response from police officials.

According to the claim, Humphrey said he was hit with the rubber bullets in his chest near his heart and in his groin after he dropped his sisters off at their school and was mistaken for a half-brother wanted by authoritie­s.

He was hospitaliz­ed for more than 20 days and will need heart surgery, according to the claim which accuses the police officers of excessive use of force, intentiona­l infliction of emotional distress and gross negligence.

Humphrey has sickle cell anemia and asthma and the claim alleges he was held for at least four hours without receiving any medical care after the incident.

Hotel manager accused of sexually

abusing job seekers, guest

A hotel manager has been arrested by Phoenix police and accused of assaulting or sexually abusing multiple women, including one hotel guest and five women seeking work.

Chandulal Dhanani, identified in court records as a 70-yearold Mesa resident, was arrested Tuesday in connection with alleged crimes that occurred over an 18-month period in 2019 and early 2020, police said in a probable-cause statement.

Dhanani grabbed the brests of five of the six alleged victims, the statement said.

A defense attorney for Dhanani, Trent Buckallew, did not immediatel­y respond to a request for comment on the allegation­s against his client.
