Saturday Jan. 23 SHREAD-A-THON

WHEN: 8 a.m.-noon (or until trucks are full)

WHERE: Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive GOING ON: The City of Yuma, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the Church for the City are hosting a nocontact shred-a-thon for secure collection and proper disposal of your sensitive documents. Event volunteers and participan­ts will follow current CDC social distancing guidelines. All documents should be in the trunk of the vehicle before arriving – participan­ts will be asked to stay in their vehicle during the event. Binders, binder clips and electronic­s will not be accepted. There is a five-box limit.

UNITE WITH LIGHT

WHEN: 6-8 p.m.

WHERE: Yuma Regional Medical Center

GOING ON: Yuma Regional Medical Center will hold a special week-long event Saturday, Jan 23 through

Friday, Jan 29. Unite with Light offers a time for hope and healing. Together we honor those whose lives have been lost to COVID-19 and join in faith to support grieving families, patients and those currently hospitaliz­ed. Together we will also pray for YRMC staff, who continue to care for our community. Unite with Light will commence with a special Park and Pray ceremony.

Family members who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 are invited to park in Lot G on the south side of YRMC during the Park and Pray opening and closing ceremony on January 23 and Friday, January 29. Space in YRMC’s Lot G is limited, therefore tickets for both days will be required at https://tinyurl.com/y3nk7pxm COST: Free

YUMA MEDJOOL DATE FESTIVAL

WHEN: 10 a.m.

WHERE: Online with Facebook Live

GOING ON: The annual Yuma Medjool Date Festival will be held virtually this year, celebratin­g the date fruit with interviews from local date growers, a performanc­e from the Gwynn Sisters and chef demonstrat­ions.

MEET THE AUTHOR

WHERE: Hands Extended Thrift Store, 13341 S. Frontage Road GOING ON: Ellynore Seybold, also known as Ellynore Smith, is this month’s Meet the Author. She is a prize-winning author writing mostly historical novels who lives in Wellton year round.

The 500 luminaries represent the lives lost in Yuma County to COVID-19.
