Dalin crosses line first in Vendee Globe

Frenchman Charlie dalin crossed the line first in the Vendee Globe on Wednesday night after eighty days at sea, yet could not be declared the winner until two other sailors finished in an unpreceden­ted ending to the solo round-the-world race.

The 36-year-old dalin arrived at 8:30 p.m. local time in his 60-foot monohull apivia at Les sables-d’Olonne in west-central France, situated on the atlantic Ocean.

a smiling dalin, who is also an architect, stood on top of his yacht and waved, then lit a flare, following 80 days, 6 hours, 15 minutes, 47 seconds of arduous sailing.

NWSL to hold Challenge Cup in April, games in May

The national Women’s soccer League will hold the preseason Challenge Cup tournament in local markets starting april 9.

The 10-team league, with racing Louisville joining this season, is set to open its ninth season May 15.

Each team will play 24 games, with six reaching the playoffs. The regular season will end Oct. 30. The schedule for the Challenge Cup and the regular season will be released at a later date but there will be no break for the Olympics.

Nuggets’ Murray fined $25,000 for groin strike

denver nuggets guard Jamal Murray was fined $25,000 by the nBa on Wednesday for a shot to the groin area of dallas’ Tim hardaway Jr.

Murray was ejected after the apparently intentiona­l act in the third quarter of a game Monday night. The nuggets won 117-113.

Murray stumbled backward after colliding with hardaway as denver was setting up on offense. Murray got up and reached between hardaway’s legs with his right arm, prompting hardaway to double over.

No. 6 Stanford rolls over Washington State

despite the constant travel, subpar practice conditions and dropping back-to-back games to Colorado and uCLa earlier this month, things are finally starting to look up.

stanford beat Washington state 71-49 Wednesday night for their second straight victory of 20 or more points. What’s more, the sixthranke­d Cardinal will return to Maples Pavilion on Feb. 5 against Colorado after several months away from their home stadium.
