Quick Hitters Wild’s Soucy banned for high hit on Coyotes’ Garland

The NhL has suspended Minnesota Wild defenseman Carson Soucy for one game for charging Arizona Coyotes forward Conor Garland.

Soucy was given a five-minute major for charging Garland in the first period of Tuesday night’s 3-0 win by Minnesota. Soucy left his feet and made contact with Garland’s head.

Vikings agree to deal with corner Patrick Peterson

The Minnesota Vikings agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $10 million with eight-time Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson on Wednesday night, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiatio­ns.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had yet to announce the deal.

Peterson, a three-time All-Pro pick, played 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after being drafted fifth overall out of LSU in 2011. he has never missed a game due to injury.

Though he’s past his prime at age 30, Peterson will bring some badly needed experience to a cornerback group that went through significan­t growing and injury pains last year.

Oregon to allow limited fans at outdoor sporting events

The Portland Timbers and the Portland Thorns will be able to welcome a limited number of fans back to home soccer games starting next month.

The Oregon health Authority said Wednesday that outdoor sporting events can be held at 25% capacity. At Providence Park, that’s approximat­ely 6,500 people.

The Thorns will host the first profession­al sporting event in Oregon with fans since the coronaviru­s shutdown when they host Kansas City on April 9 in the National Women’s Soccer League’s preseason Challenge Cup Tournament.
