I lost my best friend today, my dad; Hubert Myers, he was 97 years old. Hugh was born in Taylor, Texas in 1923 to Arthur and Cora Myers; dad was the fourth of six boys and the only survivor at time of his death.

Hugh and his buddy first came to Yuma on a freight train at the age of 15 during the Great Depression (no jobs). Dad and his buddy would jump on a train (box car) and ride to Bakersfield, CA to pick cotton; they would sleep under a lean-to next to the field and they were fed by the owner of the field.

Dad joined the Army in 1942 and was assigned to the Army 8th Air Corp as a Radio Operator and Gunnery School. Dad was assigned to a B-17 bomber with a painting on its side of a blond girl riding a bomb; the plane was named the Yankee Maid. Dad and the Yankee Maid flew 35 missions over German occupied Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver and Bronze Stars and 5 Air Medals; dads rank was E7.

After receiving his college degree (top of his class) Hugh was offered several jobs with FBI, CIA, Hughes Air Craft Co. Not wanting to live in Washington dad chose Hughes Air Craft and retired 28 years later.

Dad married his childhood sweetheart Willie Ellen, (grandpa had a sense of humor). Mom and dad had 2 boys, Rick and Terry Myers,; grandson Toby, great grandson, Trace and great granddaughter, Macy.

Dad loved hunting elk in Colorado, Quail and Dove in Dateland, AZ with his brothers.

See you on the other side dad.
