HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
Friday 8 p.m. on CBS Magnum P.I.
Higgins (Perdita Weeks) ventures onto some unusual turf when her therapist (guest star Tijuana Ricks) hires her to look into why one of her teenage patients recently committed suicide in the new episode “Those We Leave Behind.” That desperate and irreversible act seemed completely out of character for the patient in question, leaving the shrink shaken and doubting her professional skills. Chantal Thuy and Lance Kim also guest star; Jay Hernandez, Zachary Knighton and Stephen Hill also star.
10 p.m. on AMC
Eli Roth’s History of Horror
History suggests — and several horror movies confirm — that humanity has the right stuff to survive just about anything from wars to plagues to a zombie apocalypse, but horror fans may have the advantage here, thanks to the survival tips they’ve gleaned from watching such epic flicks as “World War Z,” “Zombieland,” “I Am Legend,” “10 Cloverfield Lane” and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” The new episode “Apocalyptic Horror” includes interviews with writers Max Brooks, Bryan Fuller, Edgar Wright and filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Rob Zombie, among many others.
Saturday 8 p.m. on CW
World’s Funniest Animals
Actress Amara Zaragoza, known for playing Poppy on “Gossip Girl,” is the special guest for a new episode in which host Elizabeth Stanton introduces clips featuring a cat who needs some help landing on its feet and a dog that seems to be having the best day of his life in the middle of a fountain. Other highlights include hungry hamsters, twirling terriers and larcenous lizards, with commentary provided by panelists Mikalah Gordon, Brian Cooper, Carmen Hodgson and Noah Matthews.
8:29 p.m. on KYMA Saturday Night Live
Former series regular Jason Sudeikis, who recently won two Emmy Awards for his work in the Apple TV Plus comedy series “Ted Lasso,” returns to his old professional stomping grounds in NBC’s Studio 8H for his first appearance as guest host. In addition to appearing in sketches with Kenan Thompson and other former “SNL” colleagues, Sudeikis also introduces singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, who makes her debut as musical guest in conjunction with the recent release of her new album “In These
Silent Days.”
Sunday 10:03 p.m. on HBO
Insecure
Emmy-nominated series creator and star Issa Rae returns to her role as Issa Dee as this acclaimed sitcom opens its fifth and final season, which is expected to resolve some of the bombshell cliffhangers in the Season 4 finale — chiefly, the fate of Issa’s relationship with Lawrence (Jay Ellis) now that he knows his exgirlfriend is pregnant. Meanwhile, Molly (Yvonne Orji) joins Issa in the rock-bottom club, having just broken up with Andrew (Alexander Hodge).
Monday 7 p.m. on KECY The Masked Singer
Fox’s blockbuster music competition series moves to a new night this week only for the new special “All-Time Countdown,” which counts down the greatest performances in the history of the show. Host Nick Cannon also takes viewers through a look back at some previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage from the current Season 6, while dropping some new clues and hints to contestants who are still unmasked.
8 p.m. on CW 4400
A reboot of a sci-fi cable series that ran from 2004-07 on USA Network, this new CW makeover once again deals with the mysterious and collective reappearance of 4400 seemingly random people after vanishing inexplicably over the last century. What makes their mass return to the city of Detroit even more baffling is how none of them seems to have aged a day since their disappearance, sending government experts racing for answers. The cast includes Brittany Adebumola, Joseph David-Jones, Ireon Roach and Jaye Ladymore.
Tuesday 8 p.m. on CW Supergirl
Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and her allies face an extreme psychological test of wills when they must face their two biggest foes simultaneously, as Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) appears at Nyxly’s (Peta Sergeant) side in the new episode “I Believe in a Thing Called Love.” Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) polishes her plans for the perfect proposal to Kelly (Azie Tesfai), but her work keeps getting in the way.
10 p.m. on TBS The Last O.G.
The season three finale saw Tray Barker (Tracy Morgan) become the victim of a violent attack, and as Season 4 returns tonight with two new back-to-back episodes, the character experiences a personal reawakening that includes new perspectives on his community, his life goals and the challenges he confronts. Finally accepting the unpleasant reality that his world is changing, Tray realizes he must adapt to help the Brooklyn he loves. Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“People of Earth”) joins an ensemble that also includes Ryan Gaul, Taylor Mosby, Dante Hoagland and Anna Maria Horsford.
Wednesday 9 p.m. on HGTV Houses With History
In the new episode “The One With the Double Staircase,” Mike, Rich and Jenn prepare for a big job as they consider purchasing two homes in dramatically different states of disrepair. One is a 1696 home that is literally leaning, while the other is an 1800 home with a solid exterior that covers up the first stage of an abandoned demolition.
Thursday 7 p.m. on CW Walker
Realizing his life is at risk, Walker (Jared Padalecki) confronts Captain James (Coby Bell), who confesses to Walker the real reason Micki (Lindsey Morgan) went undercover, in the Season 2 premiere, “They Started It.” Meanwhile, the Davidson family returns home, setting Walker family matriarch Abeline (Molly Hagan) on edge because of a dark history that stretches between the two clans. Elsewhere, Trey (Jeff Pierre) comes perilously close to blowing Micki’s cover.
10 p.m. on FX What We Do in the Shadows
This acclaimed series adaptation of a hit horror comedy from New Zealand closes out Season 3 — with a fourth season already greenlit by FX Networks — with a finale called “The Portrait,” which finds the vampire household and their bodyguard, Guillermo (Harvey Guillen), mourning the loss of one of their own. Considering everyone but Guillermo already is undead, the tragedy is somewhat relative. Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou and Mark Proksch also star.
