Padma Lakshmi’s ‘Taste the Nation’ heads a packed week of culinary programming
Padma Lakshmi is never one to sit still for too long and she again proves it in a limited “Taste the Nation” series that’s upcoming on Hulu that’s one of several culinary offerings to hit the small screen in recent weeks.
In “Taste the Nation: Holiday Edition,” a four-part series that begins streaming Thursday, Nov. 4, the host and cookbook author travels the country to highlight the unique holiday traditions among immigrant groups in various U.S. cities.
So in the four episodes, Lakshmi connects with the Jewish-American community of New York’s Lower East
Side to explore the true meaning and culinary traditions of Chanukah; heads to Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts to deconstruct the holiday narrative behind the Thanksgiving feast and learn about the traditions and food of the local Wampanoag Nation; ventures to Miami to meet up the Cuban-American community and find out about their holiday, Nochebuena; and goes to Los Angeles to take in the sumptuous flavors
of Koreatown. A veritable cornucopia of international cuisine.
For fans of Thai cuisine, the Food Network/discovery+ special “Getting Spicy With Pepper Teigen” is certain to pique interest. Premiering Saturday, Nov. 6, the half-hour offering puts the cookbook author and matriarch of the Teigen family (which include her daughter, model/ TV personality Chrissy Teigen) front and center as she and eldest daughter
Tina share stories from the Teigen sisters’ childhood while preparing an enticing feast inspired by family recipes that are easily accessible. Be ready to take notes.
