OF ‘TRUE CRIME STORY: INDEFENSIBLE’ ON AMC+ AND SUNDANCETV

- BY GEORGE DICKIE

Have you had anyone walk out on you during interviews for “True Crime Story: Indefensible”?

Shockingly, I actually haven’t had anyone walk out of an interview. Even when I was a field producer at “The

Daily Show,” I mean, I’ve interviewed so many people or just a producer doing interviews, I’ve never had a walkout. There was one time in a Zoom interview I did with John McAfee where he got

upset and almost clicked out of a Zoom but then I got him back. That’s the only time I thought somebody was going to leave an interview.

Sure. I would love a series where all of the killers are either in prison or dead (laughs). Yeah, I mean there are a ton of cases. And I almost think you could say

this about almost every crime kind of has echoes like of the society that it happens in. So any story where the outcome is really just like more of a reflection on the culture I think is always really interesting to kind of examine or look over

in a different way.

After doing this, does doing hard news interest you?

(Laughs) No. I mean, anything interests me at this point, I think, but my heart is in

comedy and my background is in comedy and I think you can say so much more with it. So this was a little bit of a departure but there’s so much to say right now and I love that AMC gave me the opportunity to do that with this show. But I also think having a little bit of comedy in any capacity, it gives you a little bit more flexibility to kind of editorialize what you’re trying to say. Whereas in straight news, you’re just beholden to a whole other set of standards that I think make it a little harder to say what

you want.

Are there any cases in history you’d like to investigate that you obviously can’t?
