Monday May 2 ARIZONA WESTERN COLLEGE COMMUNITY BAND

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Schoening Conference Center, 3C Building at AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Avenue 8E

GOING ON: Internatio­nally respected flutist Rama Kumaran will be the guest artist in the AWC Community Band’s performanc­e of “Aeolian Tones.” Kumaran will present a clinic from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room MU 102 at AWC. Both the clinic and concert are free and open to the public.

Thursday May 5 FREEDOM LIBRARY ANNUAL AWARDS FORUM

WHEN: 7-9 p.m.

WHERE: The Freedom Library, 2035 S. Arizona Ave.

GOING ON: Kiran Hill, former Marine Corps officer, and Joshua Stanwitz, former Marine and National Guard member, will speak on realism and restraint in foreign policy.

Audience Q&A will follow, and scholarshi­ps will be awarded to Yuma individual­s.

COST: Freewill donation of a nonperisha­ble food item, which will be donated to Crossroads Mission and the Yuma Community Food Bank, and/or monetary donations to the Freedom Library.

Friday May 6 AWC SPRING CONCERT

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 16th Street and 14th Avenue

GOING ON: The AWC Music Department will present a spring concert featuring the AWC Chamber Singers and the Yuma Chorale to close out the end of the concert season, featuring a variety of music. COST: A freewill donation of $5 is requested, which will go directly to the Don Alspach Scholarshi­p Fund, used for students in the form of music scholarshi­ps for tuition and vocal music lessons.

GOING ON: Join the leaders of Arizona’s Freedom Library for a 90-minute virtual Civility Session featuring celebrated journalist­s Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson as they explore how building civility is the best way to uphold the principles of the U.S. Constituti­on and its promises of liberty and freedom for all.

Saturday May 14 ORCHESTRA CLASSICS

GOING ON: Join the Yuma Civic Orchestra and String Ambassador­s for its final concert of the season. Our musicians are looking forward to bringing Yumans an orchestral classics concert where our community can experience the power and imagery that the music brings. Some of the pieces selected for this concert include Egmont,

Op. 84 by Ludwig van Beethoven, Hungarian Rhapsody by Franz Liszt and Franz Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony. This concert is dedicated specifical­ly to those in our community and surroundin­g areas who love classical music and who support us all year round. MCAS YUMA MUD RUN CHALLENGE

WHEN: Heats begin at 6:30 a.m. WHERE: Marine Corps Air Station Yuma

GOING ON: Presented by Marine Raiders, the MCAS Yuma Mud Run Challenge features a custom-built course of 2.7 miles of desert terrain, plus 8 obstacles. Open to ages 13 and up. All participan­ts and spectators must have a ticket to attend. Spectator tickets are for those who do not have base access. COST: Registrati­on is $50 for active duty, $55 for civilian, spectators are free
