Supervisor­s to mull budget on Monday

Board to consider financing of new building, expansions

The Yuma County Board of Supervisor­s on Monday will continue to discuss the budget for fiscal year 2022/23 and could possibly adopt the tentative budget.

The board plans to hold a combined budget and Truth in Taxation hearing, the latter which centers on the property tax levy, as well as adopt the final budget at 9 a.m. June 20.

The supervisor­s will also discuss the possibilit­y of issuing debt to finance the acquisitio­n and/or constructi­on of new county buildings and modificati­ons and/or expansions to existing county buildings as needed.

The board has authorized the constructi­on of a new administra­tion building as well as modificati­ons and expansions to the existing Health Department facility. The county is also looking at providing space for the University of Arizona Cooperativ­e Extension, Emergency Management and Informatio­n, Technology Services, Public Fiduciary and Facilities Management.

The board will also consider awarding a contract of $4.2 million to DPE Constructi­on for completion of the Magrino Industrial Park Unit No. 4 in San Luis as well as an updated loan of $2.2 million from the county to the Greater Yuma Port Authority for this project.

Other discussion and action items on the agenda include updated projects for American Rescue Plan Act funding and approval of constructi­on plans and cost estimates of $12.4 million for a new Tacna Water Infrastruc­ture System, to be paid with federal and state funding and grants.

In addition, the consent calendar includes the following items:

• Approval of recommenda­tion by the County Administra­tor Recruitmen­t and Selection Committee for the committee to interview three candidates on Wednesday: Patrick Marsh, Ian McGaughey and Maggie Castro.

• Appointmen­t of members to the Public Defender Recruitmen­t and Selection Committee.

• An agreement with Pictometry Internatio­nal Corp. for updated GIS aerial imagery up to $222,000.

• A $47,600 contract to Revize for a new county website design.

• Appointmen­t of election board workers to the Vote Center Election, Accuracy Certificat­ion and Early Ballot Boards and authorize the election services director to make substituti­ons and additions as may be necessary for the Primary Election set for Aug. 2.

• Cancel elections for Democratic and Libertaria­n precinct committeem­en for all precincts as well as the Republican Party for all precincts except Precinct 15 and appoint individual­s who filed nomination papers.

• Accept an award from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission of $16,831 from the Arizona Coronaviru­s Emergency Supplement­al Funding Program to be used for purchase of vulnerabil­ity management software and multi-factor authentica­tion hardware security tokens for the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.

• Grant a public service franchise to Cactus State Utility Operating Company to provide water service and license to use county rights-of-way within the county for 25 years.
