Jurickson Profar and the Padres agree to a $1M, 1-year contract, 2 AP sources say

san DIEGO — Free agent Jurickson Profar and the san diego Padres have agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract that gives the 30-year-old outfielder the chance to make another $1.5 million in perftrmanc­e bonuses based on plate appearance­s, two people familiar with the deal said Monday.

The two people spoke with The associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the deal is contingent on Profar passing a physical. Profar is currently in his native Curaçao working to obtain a visa and isn’t expected to arrive at spring training in Peoria, arizona, until later in the week, according to one of the people.

Former profession­al wrestler William “Billy Jack” Haynes in custody in wife’s death in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. — Former profession­al wrestler William albert “billy Jack” Haynes Jr. has been taken into police custody in connection with the death of his wife in Portland, authoritie­s said.

Portland police said in a statement over the weekend that Haynes, 70, was in police custody at a local hospital, undergoing treatment “for a medical condition unrelated to the homicide or his contact with law enforcemen­t.” Police said charges would be announced when Haynes is booked into jail.

Haynes was identified by police as the suspect in the fatal shooting of Janette becraft, 85. Police said they responded Thursday to reports of a shooting in a Portland neighborho­od and requested help from special teams including crisis negotiator­s. KGW-TV reported that Haynes was detained two hours after two hours of negotiatio­ns. Police found becraft dead inside the home.

Cowboys and Mike Zimmer agree on a reunion as defensive coordinato­r

FRISCO, Texas — The dallas Cowboys have settled on a coaching reunion by deciding to bring back Mike Zimmer as defensive coordinato­r to replace dan Quinn.

Zimmer is rejoining the Cowboys 18 years after serving in the same role for dallas. He later spent eight years as Minnesota’s head coach. The Cowboys and Zimmer reached an agreement Monday.

The Cowboys had an opening after Quinn accepted the head coaching job in Washington.
