Agencies to hold 50th vaccination clinic in San Luis on Thursday
SAN LUIS, Ariz. – The partnership between Comite de Bien Estar and the Yuma County Health Department has hit a milestone – its 50th vaccination clinic offered to the community in the last three years.
On Thursday, May 16, the 50th vaccination clinic will be held by the two organizations and others collaborating, in an event offering free vaccination services, health information and services, as well as raffles and surprise gifts for attendees.
The clinic will be available from 9 a.m. to noon at the CDB headquarters at 963 E. B St.
The vaccines available will include updated Moderna and Pfizer boosters against COVID-19, immunization against Hepatitis A, influenza, pneumonia, TDAP (against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis), and general vaccines for minors.
During the clinic, several agencies will provide health screenings such as blood cholesterol measurement, blood pressure, and glucose level, as well as body mass index and HIV testing, all at no cost to the public.
In terms of information and other services, the Mexican Consulate in Yuma will provide documentation services to issue birth certificates, dual nationality, and printing of the CURP (Unique Population Registry Code), all for Mexican nationals.
Officials will also offer information and assistance for job search and utility payment for field workers, legal services in the labor field for agricultural workers, access to Medicare for seniors, and immigration advice and services.
Liliana Arroyo, spokesperson for CDB, said that reaching the 50 vaccination clinic milestone is an achievement made possible by the collaboration between the non-profit organization and the Yuma County Health Department.
“Since January 2021, the collaboration was initiated, and over 15,000 vaccines have been administered. We started with COVID-19 vaccines when there wasn’t much access to them, then we added other vaccines and services, according to what the community needed,” she said.
The spokesperson added that the initial clinics had the most participation, attending to over 600 people in a single event.
Once established, support from the national organization Unidos US with its Esperanza para Todos program was added to the clinics, and the number of participating organizations has grown, she elaborated.
Arroyo noted that in the May 16th clinic, organizations such as Sunset Health, Campesinos Sin Fronteras, Chicanos Por La Causa, Community Legal Services, PPEP, and SBHIS Medicare Solutions will also participate.
No pre-registration is required to take advantage of the vaccination clinic services.
