Talented musician’s album released on vinyl
Well-known traditional musician Ngô Hồng Quang has released his latest album on vinyl records, featuring compositions that combine traditional and contemporary elements.
The album, Rạng Đông (The Dawn), sends messages about life, love and women.
It features elements from folk music by ethnic minorities living in remote provinces in Việt Nam.
Music of the Mông in the North and ethnics in Central Highlands are included.
Traditional instruments, such as đàn nhị (two-string fiddle), đàn môi (jew’s harp) and sáo Dao (Mông flute), are highlighted.
New songs, titled Rạng Đông and Phận Cái Duyên (The Destiny), feature the dreams, hopes and daily life of ethnic people.
Quang and his staff, including artists from India, France, Japan and the Netherlands, spent more than 14 months in studio to complete the album.
"I hope audiences will have a good experience after listening to my music,” said Quang, who works and performs in Việt Nam and Europe.
Quang studied music at the Việt Nam National Academy of Music in Hà Nội.
He is a graduate in composition at the Royal Academy of Music Netherlands in Den Haag.
He sings, plays and creates songs and music pieces that combine traditional and contemporary elements. His talents can be heard on vocals, including multiphonics and harmonic.
In 2018, Quang and musician Nguyên Lê were nominated for Echo Jazz 2018, a prestigious jazz award hosted by the ACT Music recording company. ACT opened in
Hamburg in 1992 and is considered
finnestdcurators one of the of progressive jazz and creative music.
Both artists were nominated for their joint album, Hanoi Duo, released in January 2017.
The album includes 10 of their newly composed songs, some of which bear deep traditional Vietnamese characteristics. The album was re-mixed by Nguyên Lê in a modern style and was recorded in France.
Nguyên Lê (born Lê Thành Nguyên), a French Vietnamese, was nominated in the International Guitar Artist category.
Quang was nominated as Instrumentalist of the Year in the Various Instruments category.
In 2020, Quang released the album Giấc Mơ Trên Lưng (Dreams on the Back), a production featuring ethnic Mông culture and lifestyle.
