JAPANESE LEADERS HOLD FURTHER TALKS TO MAKE NORTH HANOI SMART CITY A REALITY
Japanese government agencies have taken part in several key meetings with leaders of a consortium between Vietnam’s BRG Group and Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation in order to push progress on the North Hanoi Smart City project.
The North Hanoi Smart City project is on the list of key economic cooperation projects agreed during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Japan in 2023.
Tetsuo Saito, Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, visited the North Hanoi Smart City project and met with the board of directors of North Hanoi Smart City Development
Investment Company, which oversees the venture.
At the meeting, Minister Saito listened to the North Hanoi Smart City representative’s briefing on the overall project as well as the status of preparations for its implementation.
According to the company’s representative, the project plays an important role in the partnership between the two corporations, and is a sustainable symbol of long-standing Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.
On April 24, during a working visit to Japan, Takashi Yanai, general manager of the Logistics Infrastructure Business Division at Sumitomo Corporation, and Nguyen Thi Nga, chairwoman of
BRG Group, also held a meeting in Tokyo with Hajime Wakuda, deputy commissioner for International Affairs at the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy under the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, about the North Hanoi Smart City project.
At the meeting, representatives of both BRG Group and Sumitomo Corporation shared their plans and aspirations to transform North Hanoi Smart City into the first carbon-neutral urban area in Vietnam.
Developing an increasingly sustainable environment will contribute to realising Vietnam’s 2050 net-zero commitments and the national climate change adaptation plan.n
