Veteran musicians rock KK@93 bash

The show which is the first of its kind was meant to celebrate the contributions of Zambia’s first republican president Dr. Kenneth Kaunda has made to the country and the music fraternity. It was also meant to accord him a befitting birthday celebration as he turned 93 this year.
Njoya Tembo the ZAM president and chairman of the KK@93 organizing committee made up of members from the corporate society and KK’s family says he was very happy with the support Dr Kaunda received on this occasion and thanked the veteran musicians who kept him entertained.
“We had a great event and good support from the corporate world. This event was a huge success and special thanks goes to the musicians especially the old timers that took time to spend a night with Zambia’s first veteran musician KK himself,” said Njoya Tembo.
The veteran musicians that entertained the audience which had a collection of distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps and the corporate world included the ever-energetic Air Power Band, seasoned folk musician Andy Chola, Mr. Ballad Zulu and Lumbani Madoda. Also present at the show was the veteran Rikki Lilonga who has an album to his name featuring Dr Kaunda himself.
Anchored by ZNBC’s Nabwalya V’lahakis, the show was full of music performances and surprises making Dr Kaunda who was only meant to spend 30 minutes owing to the cold weather stay for as long as 2 hours 30 minutes.
“The big man was very ecstatic, despite the cold weather, he managed to stay for long because he was enjoying himself,” said Tembo who mentioned that Dr. Kaunda was even handed a ZAM Lifetime Membership Certificate and a Legacy Achievement Award for his unique contribution to the music industry. Present to witness this and celebrate with KK was COMESA General Secretary Sindiso Ngwenya and his wife, Mahogany Airlines C.E.O Dr Jim Belemu, Mikalile Hotels owner Mulenga Mikalile, Japanese Ambassador Sobashima Hidenobu, Dr Aaron Mujajati and guest of honor Hon. Lloyd Mulenga Kaziya the minister of water and sanitation as well as MP for Matero. The sponsors included Mika Hotels, Mahogany Airlines, Fortress Media, ZNBC and Radisson Blu.
